Kw for Kw I would say a 3SGTE is much more of a hand grenade than a 4AGTE at the same hp.

220kw from a 4agte is not even a push.

Yeah, and thats mainly due to how many are modified here.
Personally I'd go 3SGTE purely for the power delivery. 4AGTE's with 200+kw tend to get quite peaky, a 3S will still have heaps of low end torque.

I think you could buy a complete 3S for just over $1000, and then spend the rest of the cost of installing it, and in stock trim the engine would still give you a bit of fun.

Couldn't build a 4agte with the same money, all the fittings and stuff adds up and just dropping a 4AGZE in wouldn't be the same.

My 4a makes 180kw atw and its pretty gutless below 5500rpm.
Highway driving its a lot worst than the old supercharger.
Supercharged you leave it in 5th and it goes up to 140kph effortlessly...great for overtaking.

Been driven shotgun in a Celica that also makes around 180kw and it was a much smoother ride.

Lag is more fun though.

nope only SS2 superstrut 94/95 had the E series. SS3 had the S series.

people are using in FWD 3S-GTE celicas the E153 from the MR2 turbo and camry boxes, you could still use the GT4 gearbox, and convert it to FWD.

afaik only one engine mount is different

sounds like a shit tune or a turbo thats too big.

my car makes more power and makes full boost at 4000rpm in 5th gear. EFFORTLESS is how driving my car is on the motorway.

Im only using a T28 turbo.
Full boost at around 4500-4800rpm.
But its going through the standard 4agze top mount intercooler which i hear is pretty restrictive.

Just for point of interest, what is the weight difference between 4age setup V 3sgte? Id say the 3sgte/box/axles is heavyer by a fair bit. If its 50Kg extra in a 1000kg car is 5% increase in weight...

It'll be heavier (not by 50kg though) but it won't break a sweat making 100% more power than the 4AGE it replaced so it'll still be better off in the going fast department.

That could be a hilarious sleeper though, if you went full granny spec exterior.

What mods i would require if i wanted to turbo my silvertop. Would run 6-9 psi for start. 3sgte would be more expensive i guess.

bigger injectors, 4agze piston, bigger fuel pump, turbo of some description (personal preference), sealed inlet manifold, megasquirt or link ECU.

that is about it really but up to how you want to do it. it can be done on the cheap(ish) using toyota mix and match parts but most of the cost is still going to be turbo, ecu and tuning.
but the potential of such a setup can be limiting. if you want big numbers eventually, do it properly with the best parts.
