I never really took much interest in i=tinted windows until I started driving my first tinted car. It's so much cooler in summer, especially with how hot it can get over here. +1 for tinted windows

My flatmate just went through a heap of crap (at useless VTNZ) because of the factory tinted windows on her VW Polo.

The tester failed her because the 'tints may blind other motorists' (?!)....she argued that a) they were factory tints and had always been on the car and b) this was the first time it had been mentioned, let alone failed, in any WOF.

They didn't budge.

So she went to a tinting company, got them to write a letter confirming they were factory tints and were legal at that (i.e. under the 35%)

Went back to VTNZ.....still wouldn't budge.

So she went back to the tinting company.

....and went back to VTNZ....who finally gave her the warrant for her factory standard, legal tints.

Moral of the story- VTNZ suck donkey cocks and are staffed by failed mechanics on power trips

A VTNZ WOF officer failed my corolla because my tints were 38%.
After laughing at him & suggesting he double check the reading with one of his colleagues, I got the warrant.

Good to see VTNZ thoroughly train their staff.

is it only the metalic type that reflect the heat because i thought having black windows would make the car hotter?

Nope, it's the opposite lol. I guess the tints prevent the rest of your interior parts (usually black or grey) from heating up, it's like a shade over the whole car.
