Car Overheating

Postby spoonza6 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 8:19 pm

got this annoying problem im trying to fix. About 3 weeks ago the starlet started overheating so i checked the radiator and it wasnt leaking so decided to chane the thermostat as it looked pretty old. That didnt work but when i run no thermostat i can drive for quite sometime before the temp starts to creep up.
Today i decided to change the waterpump, old one didnt look like it was too bad aand prob changed about 50,000km ago but i changed it anyway since i had already removed the old one. Unfortunately still no luck and car overheats. all the sensors are plugged in and im stumped. i left it running for about 20min and it idled fine and sat at normal temp but i went for a quick boost down the road and back and in that short distance the overflow bottle started boiling all the water out.

What else can i look at checking cause im lost. Fan is working fine to.

car is a ep82 gt starlet

pulling it out and taking it to a shop. get it rodded/flushed
you can run a hose in it and see how much comes out the bottom, but that only tells you that you have some flow.

Look in it, the dozen or so tubes that are visible through the cap should be open with only a bit of mineral buildup. If more then 2-3 out of the dozen look clogged it has to betaken apart & cleaned.
Rev it when the thermo is open & no cap, and if it over flows instead of being drawn down & into the engine, then its clogged.

Take it out and lie it on a flat surface with the cap on and the hose feeds pointing up. pour a jug of near boiling water into it till it is full.
Put your hand all over the radiator to see if it is hot everywhere... if not, that area is blocked.
