Air Con clutch replaced, now engine is idling properly?

Postby pidge » Sat Oct 23, 2010 12:09 am

I had a horrendous racket coming from the drive belts because of problems with the electric clutch on air con pump. Got that sorted...

Check air con compressor find clutch bearing seized and clutch coil melted and broken

Ever since I bough my Levin, it's never idled at much below 1000rpm. It might occasionaly drop to about 800rpm once warm (maybe once every 4 months).

But after collecting the car from Automasters today, it's idling at 600rpm or so.

Now, is this a freak occurance, or has fixing the aircon pump clutch taken a load off the engine that ECU's been fighting since before I bought the car?

I'd hate to think how much extra fuel I've used in the last 9 years and 125,000km...

It will raise the idle when the aircon is on, it may have been triggering than circuit the entire time.

Or they fixed a vacuum leak for you at the same time?

When I turned the Aircon "on", the noise stopped, and the idle speed raised, so I think the clutch iteslf was working, even though it was damaged.

I guess the clutch coil was overheated by the bearing being seized - and I assume the engine was applying enoung torque to turn the bearing anyway, which (most of) us puny humans can't do without a lever or bodyweight + gravity.

I'll see what my current tank of gas does - I just filled up before getting the aircon pump fixed, and the last tank was 400km from 43L... (!)

Update:

Idle was back up to 1000+ RPM

Did an ECU reset this morning. Idle back down to 600-800rpm.

Here is the reason why idle goes back up to 1000+ rpm after a while:
Computer adjust itself to run like that.
Possibly you are running too much static advance, or your mixture is out of whack (air leak, leaky injectors, or tampered/buggered AFM).
