Crap, if they are that much and you are considering them, just pony up a bit more and get the Endless CCX pads.
I've only seen one person not happy with them, and they went UP a compound to a harder race compound. This was on a dedicated race car with LARGE brakes.
I think 10 out of 13 Taranaki car club members that raced in SS2000 the year I did ran Endless CCX. Given, these were race cars, but I used to drive my race car on the street a little more than I do at the moment, and they were great then too.

if you eat thru 1166's your pads are getting TOO hot, they need ducting. They are an awesome pad for clubsport use. they bite hard when cold/just warm, ideal for hillclimbs, autocross etc etc etc. I'd happily run then in my supra, as long as i ran 18's on it, not 17's and put some brake ducting in there to keep the PADS cool.

I have run them in my 350hp 4wd corolla and will be putting them in again when i've worn thru these ones.

I get them from Les Hunter down here, just check the Wilwood site to get a suitable compound.

I run wilwood 4pots up front so don't need to cut the pads, but run TE71 rear's so have to have a set of pads cut to suit them

They were ducted, larger rotors and only on a ~650kg car, they were toast in a few meetings, right through to the backing plates

were you doing a RACE meeting? how many lap races? Doesn't Matt go thru a set of pads per meeting?

Yeah RACE meeting as it's a RACE car, qual + 3 x 6 lap races. ~80km a meet

If my car ate through a set of pads a meeting I'd be pissed @ $300 odd + a set that makes for an expensive meet for club level stuff....the Wilwoods I'm running now have seen almost 2 seasons and are only just past half worn, granted we have changed the brake set up over the years but I'd still never go back to Mintex

Personal preference I guess + bang for buck, but yeah for the purposes of the topic I'd recommend to stick with a slightly cheaper all round pad to start with and if you find it wanting at the track when you get round to it, look to upgrade from there to a more race focused pad.

thats strange. A guy up here had an EP82 GT, very quick car. ran 1166's. ran all tarseal car club events and 5 rounds taupo clubmans race meets, qualifying + 3 races, per round. got just over a season out of a set of discs, yet had minimal wear on his discs.
My corollas probably done 400or so k's around taupo, hampton, tarseal rally sprints, hillclimbs, autocross etc and i'd say my pads are probably 60% worn, on the front, and probably 30% worn on the back.

I used to go thru a set of rears a weekend, but they were cheap pads and worked great without the need for bias adjustment.

I have since changed calipers front and rear and run different pads.

I did have Project Mu pads front and rear, but they worked so good that it would always lock up the rears even with bias fully forward.
I changed to willwood pads in the rear and that fixed the bias as they seem to not work quite as well and left the Project Mu ones in the front.

Since we did the changes I have completed a complete race season,
plus the weekend at Taupo and all round the pads have almost no wear on them, and they dont seem to be hard on disc's either.
And the cars weights 980kg and I use the brakes pretty hard while racing.

So I would say look at Project Mu as an option.

What compound are you using on the rear Matt? I assume one from the Polymatrix range?

The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

while where on the topic I also have a BZ-g with twin pots.
Currently have new oem toyota pads. Braking is by no means lacking. But if I could have better...why not.

Came across some Endless NA-S pads to suit on yahoo from what I can find there a discontinued pad and rate as a performance street pad.
Has any one used these.

Also when upgrading pads is it worth doing the rears as well?

Thank god theres another person on here that thinks the same.

My pair of 1166s from new and bedded lasted 30 laps at Manfield thats a day.I found the harder you pushed them the quicker they came apart.I have used many pads over the years including Pagids Hawk HP-Plus,HT-10s TRD REDs and never have I had a pad fall to pieces like those Mintex 1166s supplied by Racebrakes thats something for the price which was about TRD RED money $265-$300 range I thought was diabolical.

The Kicker for me we spoke to the people at Race-brakes and these guys recommended these pads even after telling them what sought of car and what we were using the car for.So when I rang them and explained what happend they basically hung the phone up and didn't want to no hence I will never use these MONKEYS ever again.

This is about 5-6 years ago now they may have changed but for me there done as a supplier for anything that goes on my car.

For once someone has the same experience as I did with 0800 brakes, those guys don't wanna hear your sob story after you exchange $$$ with them.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Another important question is what kind of tyres (e.g. Road Tyres / Semi Slicks / Slicks) do you plan on using on the track days? This will impact the amount of load you will be putting on your braking system..

interesting... I wouldn't want ebc's on a pushbike let alone a car!

For something that's going to get driven hard more often than not I'd recommend Carbotech XP8's from ctbrakes.com (or if you're racing with 300+kw and 1100+kg's XP10's front XP8's rear).

They do more road orientated pads too, but I've no experience with them.

Yes o800 race noobs, I wouldn't use then either, After i took the race car in when it was road registered to sort some bigger disks out he said look on line and walked away, i left a couple of black lines in his carpark. I run willwoods and there pads and for $150 a set I can't fault them.

Hahahahaha so I see some things don't change they still must be run by the same people I'm gathering.

Its interesting to here different things about those 1166 pads and differing opinions on how they work but I guess its horses for courses with these pads and different cars. But at the end of the day in my opinion there rubbish I just have'nt used a pad thats come apart like that before and with nearly tragic results.

getting a bit out of control really. don't think the OP wants to go crazy on brakes, just a slight upgrade for road and occasional track use.

EDIT: is interesting about 'race' brakes though. suppose they have to stand by their product but maybe they shouldn't be selling a product that is so crap...

i think the issue might be 0800 racebrakes, i got my 1166's straight from the company that does the bonding as a workmates freinds works there.

Reith hasn't had any issues with his 1166's either. I know alot of people use 1166's and have only heard of like 3 horror stories in total, and they all got them from 0800 RB and they all seemed to have the same complaint.
