cambelt

Postby fxgt race » Sat Nov 13, 2010 10:39 am

Started to put the new engine together last night but it seems the cambelt is to wide and hangs over the crank pulley so when the the washer that fits over is put on it squashes it.

After measuring the orginal cam wheels where the cambelt has been running it does measure 21mm wide, which is the same as the belt that has been put on by my engine builder.

The blacktop engine that i supplied had a crack in the cam pulley so they used the pulley off my old engine which had silvertop bottom end.

Can anybody measure there cambelt and more importantly the width off the cam pulley as for some reason I think there is a difference between black and silvertop engines.

I took the belt back and they are saying it is the right belt

size

After thinking about it if the cam timing wheel are different sizes then this would move the harmonic pulley out further, so i put the black and silvertop harmonic pulleys side by side and the blacktop one is 2.5mm smaller which explains the problem.

Blacktop cambelts are narrower than silvertops.

silvertop is 19mm belt, you can use a 20mm belt though but no bigger
Blacktop is 21mm belt
