fuel pressure issue

Postby bluemaumau » Wed Nov 17, 2010 7:21 pm

so a couple of weeks ago pre dyno i was checking my fuel system for leaks etc.

i turned the car onto ign and nothing happened then i turned it off and both pumps turned on and the fuel reg climbed to 90-100psi as i was frantically disconnecting the battery

i found the leaks tho

i had some other issues, and worked on them over the next few weeks, now they are sussed and im back to the fuel pressure.

now i turn the car to ign.

i bridge the lifter pump relay, to prime the surege tank, then bridge the 044 pump relay to get that going. both work and pump (as ive takent he gauge out and joined a hose up to that, and fuel has come out)

so i have two problems i think

1. the guage isnt working now(its a blox liquid filled gauge) (goes to 100psi) could i have buggered it? cause fuels getting there but its not doing anything. - it works when i put a air gun next to it.

2. the fuel reg is adjusted to low psi(right up correct?) yet it isnt regulating? - or does that only happen when the engines on (vaccum/pressure) -

when the fuel hits the right psi in the reg what happens to the pumps? do they have a back pressure valve, this then turning them off? or will they just keep trying to pump?

really got me stumped

So your getting no fuel pressure reading on your fuel pressure gauge or low pressure?

I assume your running the pumps off the battery without the engine running, when did you last charge up the battery? Maybe it's just low on electricity.

The pumps should always be pumping at full speed (unless your car has a resistor for a low speed pump mode) the pressure regulator just lets fuel head back into the tank when the fuel rail hits the set pressure.

Like I said before.
Did you put the gauge back in, run both pumps off 12v.
Adjust the fuel reg at the same time the pumps are going to see if you can get pressure.
This is all you need to do. Adjust while it pumping fuel through the system.

All the vacuum line does is make the fuel pressure rise on boost.

Its pretty simple system, I dont see why your having so many issues :S.

The pumps should never turn off if you have constant 12v to them.
Ideally your ecu should turn them on to prime then turn them off automatically when you put the IGN to on the On position.

If the pumps are stopping when you have constant 12v to them via an external source then you have a blockage some where in the system you need to eliminate.

And you adjusted the fpr while it was running to see if you get pressure?
