I disagree I find common rails are generally quieter than pump diesels.

Rodeos are just really rattley for some reason

I wouldnt, My current work ute is a 2010 Ranger and is shite, the earlier 2008/9 Ranger I had was worse than the new one. They are quote hungry on diesel too.
My old 2005 Courier was way better to drive, but had way less grunt.
The Courier goes way better off road too, the Ranger is easier to get stuck by miles.
The base model Fords dont even have electric windows, remote locking or electric mirrors - things I get pissed off at daily. The Courier I had was an XLX so was a bit flasher, both Rangers are XL model.
I end up driving a Vitara round more often now unless I actually need the ute space.
I wanted to get a Nivara when mine came up for replacement a while back, but as the Council is all about money they went for the cheaper option of the Ford, even though it uses way more fuel than the Ranger, and the fact that when they go to sell the Ranger it would be worth $&#$% all compared to what the Nivara would, but hey thats accountants and management for you

Both Mazda and Ford have new utes on the way, the Ford looks very american and the mazda just looks ugly, like a retarded Mazda6 with a deck.

that's because they are gear driven timing, and earlier ones had the gears at the back of engine, so the noise was amplified in the bellhousing.

Postby FLAWLES » Sun Nov 21, 2010 4:42 pm

dude
i have had rodeos for work vehicles for the last 4 yrs
my first one was a 98 2.8 TD version, which was rattly as a jew shaking a can
but went like a cut cat...even with 300+tho ks on the clock it would still get 600kms to a tank and pull dam near anything

changed in 08 to a 2007 TDI rodeo and despite the plasticy feel in the interior i was deeply impressed with the way it drove, stopped and handled and pulled farm machinery around, and car trailers with shiit loads of crap in the back end

in all honestly if i where in the market for another ute it would be another holden rodeo or the new izuzu model

hope that helps
