4age waterpumps

Postby NOLAW » Tue Nov 23, 2010 10:23 am

i have an ae86 4age rwd waterpump that i bought brand new for my 16v 4agte, im now upgrading to 20v and im looking to run the thermostat in the top outlet rather than in the back of the waterpump and i dont really want to purchase a new waterpump as i dont want to put my pulleys out of alighnment.

Is there any difference in the offset of where the water pump pulley will sit in comparison to using a blacktop waterpump to a 16v RWD waterpump, and if so can the blacktop waterpump back half bolt to the front half of a 16v ae86 waterpump?

rwd pump sticks out further, has bigger offset pulley to bring back in line with crank pulley

so basically front half fwd pump requires fwd pulley
rwd requires rwd pulley

all crank pulleys are same, except for blacktop. which has different offset to compensate for the wider cam belt pulley behind it

im also running a gilmer pulley setup, hence why i want to stick with a similar setup to what i have now as i dont want to throw the pulleys out of allignment

the reason im looking into running a blactop back end of the pump is because the RWD waterpump i have now has a thermostat in the rear of the pump.

im wanting to run a thermostat in an aftermarket top inlet and i understand the blacktop dosent run the thermostat in ther waterpump so i want to know if the back half of the blacktop water pump will bolt to the front half of the RWD one, that way i can run the thermostat in the top outlet and keep my gilmer pulleys in allignment

Yes it will.

but you may run into problems that the 20V cambelt covers may not fit with the rwd pump, if you run the covers.
