rough idle while on turbo timer

Postby sik_gt_starly » Thu Nov 25, 2010 8:59 am

5efte EP82

Finally got some motivation together and took starlet for a drive, been months since the last one.

Idles perfect when turned on, drives fine and everything appears to be doing what its supposed to do.

I have a turbo timer of unknown brand age of condition.

Before i put the 5efte in it idles fine when i turned key off and was always idling perfect until the car turned off.

Now when i turn car off, turbo timer does its thing and the car idles at normal RPM most of the time but coughs and splutters and almost stalls every 20 seconds or so.

has anyone had this problem before and/or able to offer any suggestions to fix?

Thanks tons

throw away turbo timer?

yes thats an option but would rather get it working sweet since it has to be something simple

Turbo timer's are pretty simple in regards to wiring.

Check to make sure it's wired up under the dash properly.

Generally they should charge the battery while they're running and have the same characteristics and features of the ignition being in the ON position (sometimes the radio and heater/blower still work).

It might only be providing the ECU with power and not leaving the charge circuit on or maybe something like the idle speed controller valve is turning off too if it's not wired in properly....

Make sure both IG1 and IG2 (black+colour stripe, check which ones are on when the key is ON position) wires are powered on when the turbo timer is on.

since i have a turbo timer and its mounted nice and would look silly and yuck if i removed it its going to stay there.

and also since its probably only a dodgy wire stopping it from working properly im going to fix it.

I will have a check that fuel pump is getting power, it should be as whenever i rev motor as its about to stall it comes back to life fine. will get out the multimeter and check.

I have a feeling its got a dodgy wire/connection to the continuous power supply.

thanks for help so far

Normally it means it is not charging the battery when turbo timer is on.
