Cambelt change on Caldina 3sfe

Postby Kirok » Sat Nov 27, 2010 1:52 pm

Thanks for the help on my last job (cv boot)
Now looking at the cambelt and various oil seals on my 2.0 '96 Caldina 4wd 3sfe engine.
I'm hoping to collect all the genuine Toyota parts for the job before I get into it. I think I'll need:

Cambelt
Tensioner
Water pump
Crank oil seal
Camshaft oil seal x2?
Oil pump oil seal

Is there anyting else I might need for the job?
I've had a look through the site and can't find a description of this job. Can anyone help with a link, one with some pics would be good.
Is there any part of the job that's awkward or needs special tools? After a first look there doesn't seem to be much room to do the job.

they only have one camshaft seal despite being twin cam as one of the cams runs off the other via a gear under the valve cover.

apparently the seal behind the oil pump(where it bolts to the block) can go bad on these engines too

Thermostat and Radiator cap (use genuine).

Most importantly make sure you get new bolts for tensioners, very important - I had them break after new cambelt with disastrous results (although engine itself would be fine, but carnage that loose tensioner makes is another story).
