Anybody know anyone from there? Pretty pissed off

Rang parts today just interested to see what a TGP price on an alternator was, gave the guy on the phone my numberplate, engine what I wanted etc.

Literally 5 seconds later

"Yeah thats $4000 ex japan"
"Sorry, $4000 for an alternator?"
"Yeah thats right, $4000"

this is when I just hung up

Lazy prick obviously couldn't be bothered searching for it properly so decided to be a smart-ass.

Have a name but won't post it here right now, might call manager tomorrow.

I rang up about big end and main bearings for a 5E and the answer was $1000 each set ex japan . He actually suggested checking with an engine reconditioner which I did 8) ($200 odd allup).
Dealing with 1I1 (Mark) on here is a much better way of getting good prices on genuine parts

You'll probably find that he DID look for the price and that's what actually came up as the price - especially for parts for a 20+ year old car. Ask how much a 1990 MR2's turbo is worth and make sure you're sitting down.

Yeah that will be the list price, had he been feeling helpful they could have gone to TNZ for a price.

Ok so seems like that is the list price then, he just had a very sarcastic/CBF tone about him so probably didn't help my disbelief lol

Probably because they get people like you that ring up and price a part that they know you'l never buy as the RRP's are riduculous.

He probably could have gone to TNZ and got a better price,
but why bother as at even 1/2 that price no one would buy them.

I was only interested, I don't know a huge amount about Toyota pricing and have found in the past some random things have been pretty cheap.

He didn't need to be a dick about it though.

Obviously you have never been a parts interpreter :)

Seriously, you get all sorts of requests for things that just aren't available anymore. You might think your ke30 is a classic, but to mr Toyota it's redundant. Your right about the price though, when a part isn't on file generally some stupidly high price is put on there, just to fill in the blanks. A call to Toyota will generally get you an accurate price, though you might have to get the answer from japan.

What car was it for anyway?

Haha speaking of dealings with salespeople - we were fairly impressed with a helpful salesperson we had at Repco who tolerated and helped us out when we were going back and forward trying to work out a sensible sized oil filter for my mates Prelude when we discovered, got a hint from someone that you may know him :wink:

R&B Toyota in town are good Skin and Revvy both used to work there unless your not blatantly wasting there time anything is possible.We got a Getrag 6-spd brand new priced through Toyota $24 K RRP we finally after wheeling and dealing got it down to $8K.Another example a 2JZ longblock we got through R&B Kent Tce for $3700 inc GST.

So regardless of what your buying it can be got new for a good price though it does help to be in cohoots with the parts manager and have a good contact at TNZ.Its probably the only reason why my supra is loaded with TRD product as I'm sure Revvy can atest as alot of my goodies went through his hands.

Cash talks too. These guys probably get hundreds of people ringing up each day wanting to know how much [insert generic part for car that hasn't been in production for over a decade] costs and then listening to the person getting mad when it isn't ridiculously cheap - like it's the sales guy's fault.

I bet if you walked in there and made it known that you were looking to buy one the 0's would start tumbling off the list price.

Yep I'd go through R&B any day of the week, always get great deals from them and most other dealerships can't seem to match the prices I get quoted.

Which one of us are you referring to? Either way, we're going to try and get the Prelude fired up this weekend so you'll probably see some of me and Vanadium (who the Prelude belongs to) as we do final panic runs for anything we might discover we need :)

Sit down before asking the price for a MKIV seat belt. $1000. Got one brand new and fitted for $140.
BOV piping thats only about 10cm long $395

Insane pricing. wonder how Toyota actually stays in business with these prices. If it was for a Ferrari I would understand
