Well got it all back together, but now its not idling properly and seems to be running rich. tried looking for leaks in piping etc, but couldn't find anything.

When I start the car it revs up to about 2000rpm and then drops down and dies, if I give it abit of throttle I can get it to sit on idle but as soon as I let off the throttle it just drops revs and dies.

This is what i've done since it was running properly

-Replaced my AFM
-Installed a GReddy Type S bov (recirculating back into the turbo intake)
-Installed an oil catch can (running the two red hoses that used to be feed back into the turbo intake into the catch can)
-Redone the wires to my AFM (as when i lengthened them last time i just used speaker wire)

Things i've done to eliminate potential problems

-Put my brothers AFM on my car, (off his mr2) still didnt run right
-Put a blocking plate between the bov and adapter to eliminate bov
-Check wires and connections, and all seems to be ok

Things im not sure about

-would using slightly thicker wires cause problems with the AFM?

Just need to know what would cause it to not idle properly and run rich

does it bring up any codes?

turn the idle adjustment screw up? :lol:

Check them just then, as you just reminded me that engine check light flashed up one of the times it was running

Got;

24 Intake air temp.
sensor signal (Open or short in intake air temp. sensor circuit
for 0.5 sec. or more (THA)) Intake air temp. sensor (circuit), ECU

31 Airflow meter signal (Open circuit in VC signal or short circuit between VS and E2 when idle contacts are closed) airflow meter (circuit), ECU

32 Airflow meter signal (Open circuit in E2 or short circuit between VC and VS) airflow meter (circuit), ECU

43 Starter signal (No STA signal to ECU until engine speed reaches 800rpm with vehicle not moving) Ignition switch (circuit)

that points to the afm..

whats with the thicker wires for the air flow meter?

it could just be an old code stored, i'd try leaving the battery off for a bit to clear them, and see if it comes up again.

Did you move the pipe from idle control valve to the catch can?
If so it will stall because it is bypassing the AFM.

Normally (from memory) Idle control valve joins the pipe from rocker cover (bypasses the intercooler and turbo), which ultimately connects to the pipe between turbo and AFM.

If the pipe from Idle control valve is vented to atmosphere (bypassing AFM) it will let in unmetered air thus fooling ECU into "thinking" that it is getting less air thus stall.

yip i have run that pipe to the catch can, will run it back to the pipe in between the turbo and AFM and see how its goes.

when i changed my piping between the turbo and AFM back when i first got my car, i needed to make the wires longer, so being the wannabe auto electrician I am :lol: I just used some speaker wire i had lying around. Then while i was mucking around moving my pod and stuff i decided to rewire it, so I used some 3mm wire from supercheap

Well finally got round to sorting out my car, run said pipe back to where it should be and now it runs properly again :D

Run that hose back into the pipe between the turbo and AFM and all is running as it should :D
