Axle Seal Replacement

So the company rebuilding my motor didnt do my axle seals while the gearbox was out (they just reused old ones, 120,000+ kms on them possibly original ones).

I now have a leak and the axles need to come off again...grrrr

I accept that I should pay for parts, but should I have to pay for the labour to do these seals ?

The argument I have is the level of build I was going for (all new seals, gaskets etc) is they should have given me the option rather than leave the old ones in. Considering it was $100 in parts and the whole build was close to the $10K mark.

I wont even go into the fact I waited 8 months due to their incompetence and mis managment of the project.

certainly i would have expected them to ask if you wanted to replace them, after all its more money in their pockets right?!

at the same time the gearbox is not the engine. shrug! if i were the owner of that business and you had just dropped 10k rebuilding an engine i would certainly replace them labour free if you came back complaining, if only in the interest of keeping customers happy. but i dont think they would be obliged to do so.

sounds like you are not particularly happy with them anyway - perhaps its time to find a new mechanic?

Yeah thats the plan and legal action in the new year may still be on the cards, I found out alot of new info that doesnt favour them well if i choose to take the whole situation to small claims.
