Ae101 Front Hub replacement

Postby Lurkin » Wed Jan 05, 2011 4:45 pm

Purchasing a second hand replacement drivers side front hub as the priors wheel bearing decided to disintegrate and subsequently have eaten the current hub... apparently.

have replaced rear ones previously, was a piece of cake. Any advice/ suggestions/ warnings about replacing the front?

And any ideas of whether a non super strut, ABS hub would be ok to replace a non superstrut, non ABS hub?

Had a quick look at a front hub off my superstrut ABS car and it doesn't look like anything special. Just has the allowance for the ABS sensor in the rear of the hub. The rest may or may not be the same, I can't confirm that. But if I was to GUESS, I would say you could mix and match (not SS and non SS though!). Just a guess.

If your hub is off want to take a photo of the rear?

Also, does anyone know if Carib hubs (appears to have the same brakes at least) would fit?

The hubs still on the car for the time being...

Non SS ABS hub will fit perfectly fine (you are replacing non-SS non-ABS hub?), just plug the hole with a rubber grommet where the sensor goes.

Carib hub will also work (provided it is of same heritage, eg AE11X).

super. methinks I will be going hub shopping tomorrow! is there any way to test the hub of a car without a wheel on it for play? (other than the obvious such as rust or being so dodgy without it!)

Any chance of getting a list of tools/ step process of removing the hub? I know this is abit cheeky but it would speed things up immensely....

Undo the bolts till it falls off the car.

So socket set / spanners SHOULD be enough. Although if the CV is still in there, then you'll need a 30 or 32 (I forget) socket and a lot of elbow grease. So those plus a few random tools for the possible unknowns.
