Check all the fuses under the dash and in the engine bay.

yea its a security one, which is a pain, but didnt think that this would happen. have heard this happens if the battery is removed aswell. i have a remote for the car but it has a flat battery, so will replace that and see if that helps, if not ill get in touch with the local ford dealer. cheers

Thats not a circle.

When you say it won't start...
Do you mean it won't turn over when you turn the key?
Or
It turns over but engine won't run?

Dumb questions-
- is the battery fully charged?
- is it in park or neutral (presuming it's an auto like my one)
- does it have factory remote to lock car or aftermarket alarm remote?

Dumb answers
- if it won't turn over it might be the factory immobiliser that stops the starter relay working
Or
- neutral start switch for auto
Or
- flat battery

If it turns over but won't run...
- after Market alarm needs deactivating with key
- a fuse has blown
- a ghost has stolen some important part and it will never run again until you call Ghost Busters

Hope this helps

Ken
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

haha cheers for the replys guys. Yea engine turns over but doesnt start, and yes the car is in park when i do so.There is a smartlock device that came factory with the car, which i have a remote for although the battery is dead in that remote so ill get a replacement. There is also a dash light with smart lock on which hasnt been flashing or turning on since, so im thinking its one of the fuses in the engine bay. will check that soon as its left at a mates.

^ this

smartlock is a pain, being a 97 its either an ef or an el. I didnt have problems when removing the stereo though, this shouldn't be the cause of the issues, unless new stereo is wired incorrectly and somehow is now using wires associated with the locking system.

Mine was an ef auto wagon, had issues with the inhibitor switch (as many do) try start it in neutral rather than park.

yea its an el. didnt get a chance to install the new head unit in because i tried to start it after i pulled out the old one and cut off the old loom. after it didnt start i wired the old loom and headunit back up and then the stereo wouldnt even power on. might try starting it in neutral when im next at the car. as for the link, ill take a look, but also signed up to another forum to get some info aswell, nothing as of yet tho. cheers for all the help guys.

I do heaps with the smartlock systems, they arew not to bad if youy know how thy work and have all the info on them.

Since it cranks it should not be the smartlock that is killing it,
as the smartlock should also kill the crank signal.

But if you leave the ignition on for 30 mins it wil cycle the doors
unlock -> lock -> unlock
automatically which by-passes the smartlock system until you turn the ign back off for 10 seconds .

Otherwise,
turn the ign on wait 10 seconds,
turn it off for 10 seconds,
Turn it back on again and count the cose flashed out by the smartlock light.

Flashes = Code number
No flashes = No fault.

90's falcon's are really common for the ignitor crapping out on them.
So engine will turn over but wont be getting spark. Gaskin Ford and Mazda down in Wellyz here keep them in stock and sell quite a few of them.

have checked all the fuses, none of them seem to be blown. not sure it would be the ignitor as i wouldnt think it would just stop randomly after not previously having any starting issues.
