Ae101 foglights

Postby Lurkin » Sat Jan 15, 2011 11:34 am

Assuming they are foglights. Located in the front bumper, with an indicator as well.

Basically the indicators work as per usual, foglights do not light up on any lighting setting. However, other parklights (like the ones that are part of the headlights) are working fine...

there was some rather dodgy wiring going on the passengers side... have tidied this up as far as I can see - but still no joy.

Have checked the bulbs - they appear fine with no breaks. Have checked the fuses in the engine bay (passengers side) and those in the drivers footwell - all appear fine.

Any ideas of what to do next?

This on a Levin or Trueno? On my Levin, the indicator is just one unit. Think the Truenos run a different indicator setup though

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 535362.htm

its the bumper foglights that are the problem.

Have taken them off and tested them - they are definitely working... grrr. just the wiring of the car i guess

Nah there ought to be a driving light switch, right beside the headlight on off switch.

thats embarrassing,.. had never actually noticed that switch in 3 years of ownership!!!

Any idea of what conditions the lights should work under, i.e. just switched on (key setting at ACC/ ON/ etc)? have just been back down into the garage and had a play - no joy  however, the headlights are unplugged... wonder if this should make a difference....

Yeah they only go with headlights on, or at least park lights on.

FYI It is illegal to drive with your fog lights on when it is not foggy or raining.

Broadmeadows is in a perpetual cloud....

nor is that the complete story - daytime running lamps are legal provided they switch off when the headlights are on etc and do not dazzle other drivers/ are set up correctly.

mind you... wonder what a cop with think of that....

It is against the law to use fog lamps in clear conditions (day or night) as they can dazzle other road users.

it is your responsibility to ensure they are designed for that specific purpose.

Foglamps and daytime running lamps and not the same,
the lenses and output patterns are different.

unless the foglights are out of focus or alignment or modified in the wrong position, they wont dazzle you at all, day or night. wonder why its against the law? :?

yep - understood. I meant that even if they were lights designated/ designed/ functioning correctly for 'daytime running'... I wonder if a cop would be interested in telling the difference.. or whether it would just be ticket time anyway... nevermind.

They work as they are ment to and thats good enough for me! :P

Will be a blanket ban I assume as you can get some pretty bright fog lights.
