3sge supercharger internals setup

Postby happy » Thu Jan 20, 2011 1:56 pm

hey folks iv been searching the net long and hard for some time now trying to gather some info on supercharging my 3sge, it seems alot of people have thaught about doing this but next to none have actually done it, i on the other hand am actually going to do it i have all the bits i need to do it except a bit of knowledge, i have a complete gen 3 3sge motor, i also have some 3sgte pistons, rods etc and i am wondering which ones would be the better to use, i have a clued up freind who recons the stock 3sge will handle being supercharged although he has never herd of anybody doing this, but i have also read on other forums by people that have thaught about doing this that the motor will blow up due to its high compression, so is there any way i can mod the original pistons to make it less compression? or would i be better off using the 3sgte pistons? can i just leave it how it is without risk of breakages?

any help would be appreciated

depends how big of a pulley you gonna use and what kinda supercharger, if you're just gonna pussy 3PSI it then stay with the stock internals.

once you get to 7psi you're getting dangerous, Gen 3 3S-GE has higher lift and duration cam (especially manuals), you'll be taking a lot more air in than a 3S-GTE at the same PSI reading, pays to swap the pistons and rods in.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

What you're asking is essentially if you can "get away with doing something dodgy". The reality is if you want a reliable modified car then you have to do it right especially if there's a charger involved. However if you're not worried about it shitting itself then run the standard internals and see how long it will last. Personally i would order a brand new set of 3sgte pistons from ebay (cost me $230 landed incl rings about a month ago) use the 3sgte rods then bore, hone, new bearings, gaskets etc.
So i guess the question is........ What's you're budget?

i was prepared to spend a bit change the pistons over anyways if i had to, i want the motor to be as reliable as i can make, dont really want to spend more money on another un nessisary rebuild

use the motor as it is, use an intercooler and spend the money on bigger injectors and an aftermarket ecu. the compression ratio will take 10psi with 98 octane on a correct tune

evo or gt-t caldina both of which are 500-550cc min and fit into the 3sge n/a fuel rail. use the factory pressure reg, and get a better intank fuel pump
