Under Construction Insurance - What Options?

Postby wde_bdy » Thu Jan 27, 2011 10:46 pm

Told NAC to $&#$% off after they changed their policy so you are only covered for up to $2,500 for accessories not attached to the vehicle, no good for me as at any one time there could be an easy $10k separated from the vehicle shell.
So, who is anyone else using? What sort of cover and what sort of restrictions and excess?

i always thought if they weren't attached to your vehicle or your vehicle is off the road for a foreseeable amount of time, it would be covered under contents insurance same as any tools or equipment you would have lying round in the garage.

correct me if i'm wrong but this has been my understanding.

Im with AMI for home and contents, they dont cover any car parts under their contents policies. My cars are insured elsewhere so not sure how it goes if you have car insurance through them, but guessing they still wouldnt cover them if theyre not in the car.

Yeah no cover under contents insurance.
Basically what I had with NAC was cover for a vehicle not driven on the road and all the parts associated with it for fire and theft. For example when my ute was stripped down and dropped off to the panel beater the shell was covered as well as being covered for the engine, wheels etc etc still stored in my shed. They have now capped stuff not attached to $2,500 which doesn't even cover my wheels and tyres.

Yeah, have had Classic Car Cover recommended just need to give them a call. Have read through their policy document and seems to have a max of $5k for parts not attached but they seem flexible so will ask if they can go higher while under construction.

My EVO is insured with Club Auto. All modifications are covered as long as i keep the company up to date with them all. Full fire and theft and 2nd named driver.
Is a little bit pricey per annum but in my opinion is worth it.
