choosing a new ecu HELP

Postby tim_blair » Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:58 am

im looking at buying a new ecu for my blacktop 4age turbo project
there is quite alot on trademe and im not sure what brand to go for or anything
my price limit is 1000
i have found a "link plus g1" for $750 brand new to suit a 4age

im looking for something basic not mega amounts of power or anything
its for street use

I'm running that exact ecu on my 200kw 4agte. No problems at all, its like driving a factory 4age. Cold start needs to be set up by someone who knows what they are doing though.

Only thing to note is that the boost control is crap in the Link plus "G1".

G1 can't be 'brand new' though. I bought mine 3 or 4 years ago.

Yep, G3 onwards is pretty good though. I use my G3 for boost control and it works fine.

Yes.

G1 isn't very good at controlling the boost if higher than the wastegate pressure, even if it is just one setting. Mine boost spiked all over the place with the Link flailing about trying its best but failing miserably.

wouldn't be controlling boost if it wasn't higher than wastegate pressure?!

have setup boost control on g1 linkplus and v5. worked fine no spikes etc.

g1 link plus's are getting pretty old now though. your looking at an ecu 5 -10 years old. consider that before you pay 750 for it

Yep, thats why i said 'if higher'. In other words its controlling a boost solenoid rather than the WG spring pressure.

Come to think of it, when I had a T28 it controlled boost fine. But with the t3/4 450hp jobbie the boost delivery built up much faster and was an issue in 1st and 2nd. So I guess it depends on the setup because the T28 was a much smoother delivery rather than the violent T3/04e.

g1 linkplus will run it fine, has a couple of rpm switches, so can turn vvt on for midrange then back off at hi rpm. plus you can run tps/map if run into low vac issues with the quad throttles. if you could get it a bit cheaper would be all good
