Subaru b4 NO oil pressure

Postby 88.4ageGT » Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:13 pm

I have a subaru that has intermitent oil pressure causing the check engine light to come on start up and sometimes when driving at low revs.
this causes the car to lose power.
so car has pretty much no oil pressure til has been run for ten mins.
any ideas on cause and solutions?

thanks

Replace the big end bearings. Though in all seriousness, check the oil pressure with a gauge, the idiot light isnt the best indicator. If you've lost oil pressure then your motor would be toast.

You sure it's oil pressure (How did you check)? Low/No oil pressure would bring the oil light on and if you kept going would eventually kill the engine.

You mentioned the Check Engine Light coming on and not the oil light...The ECU controls the Check Engine Light and it has no idea/doesn't care what oil pressure the engine has. So if your CEL is coming on it's more likely something to do with the ECU (eg Knock Sensor).

So why is the engine losing power?

That exactly what would happen if the fault was EFI related.

Oil light On under engine load results in instant engine death (unless there is issue with actual sender).
This is oil light:

This is a check engine light:

which normally means electrical faults with EFI.

Because that's what it's sposed to do.

depending on what code is causing the CEL to come on, it may revert to a different fuel map in attempt to keep you from exploding your engine (though it must be said subarus seem more likely to explode at the first sign of trouble than other brands) hence your loss of power.

its possible to check the codes yourself, bit of a google search will no doubt tell you how. in fact i believe its been covered on these forums before too
