guess there is no way to check history of the car if both are missing, might just have to take take the words of the seller.

You have to wonder why it would be removed from the firewall :?

What possible reason could there be to remove the chassis number that is stamped/engraved into the firewall?? Its not like it is just a tag riveted one.

Even if it has had major crash damage and they replaced the whole firewall?

on my celica, the chassis number is stamped on the top metal bar that runs between the headlights.

I'm going to guess that he's talking about the white AE86 hatch on Trademe.

It's had Riveted chassis tag removed, and also had the stamped number ground off

Asked the owner some questions & got no real answers, says he knows nothing of the cars history, not even if it has been previously registered or if it is a recent import that is uncomplied.

Absolute waste of time if you're aiming to get it registered.

AE86 had a five digit number stamped into upper Radiator support bar, but it doesn't seem to relate to chassis number in any way

That car will never legitimately be on the road again. Sounds as dodge as you can get.
There's only one reason for grinding the number off the fire wall

That's stupid..... why would you bother doing it for that reason.....

Clearly its for weight reduction, the metal dust would have reduced the overall weight quite substantially. 8)
