Requesting information 2GR-FE swap into an S engined vehicle

Postby gt4dude » Mon Feb 21, 2011 8:05 pm

Hey, I haven't read much about this swap and was wondering if anyone has done it and could spare some tech details like what bolts lined up, what custom fabrication was made, how it compared to say a 3S-GE or 3S-GTE.

The guys over on the US Celica forum tell us that S54 and E153 gearboxes line up as do 3 of 4 engine mounts and the swap has been carried out in foreign MR2's.

Anyone see the potential or care to comment?

One thing to note is replacing fly-by-wire with a cable driven throttle body will straight away require aftermarket engine management

piece of piss apart from cutting the bonnet to fit in your case (assuming your putting it into a celica).

goes much better than the old 3s and feels like a 3sgte on full boost from idle.

would have to be 2wd though. unless you find a #grfe from a 4wd which apparen't has a slightly different block, giving clearance for the transfer box

would have hoped not with a 4wd motor in a 2wd set up.

I would love to see that car, got any pics of the conversion?
How does it drive? Is it similar to R32 Golf in terms of power delivery?

I can imagine that'd feel pretty brutal, is it a bit revvier feeling too? How does it sound? I've been in a 3VZFE MR2 and it was hell torquey from down low but wasn't impressed with the overall delivery/refinement of the motor... yours sounds like having a big chunk of cake and eating it too!

No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

turbos would be awesome but i can only imagine the nightmare of fitting it all in there. and plus if i go boosted then i can't win my class at the drags.

as to the sound it did sound good until i scrapped a hole in the flexi on the way up to auckland, and now it sounds like a 3s with a fart can down low and still sexy up top.

before the hole it was relatively quiet down low.

so your car sounds like a real car down low now does it?

weld a steel tab to the front end of the flexi so it guards it from being scraped, but the downside is when you're working under your car it'll almost certainly poke your eyes out.

Oh, I thought somebody converted their GT4 into 2GRFE powered while maintaining 4WD....

Cool MR2 nevertheless.

Someone mentioned cutting the bonnet?

So even with the bulge already in a gt4 bonnet it's still not tall enough to clear the top of the V6?
