Need to also watch the inside edge up against the strut.

Best best is to grab a pen and piece of paper. Find out current rim width and offset. Check what room you have available on both inside and outside of rim and work out if the 8" wide rim will work.

This, i'd say you'll be very close if not hitting the strut. Unless you have smaller diameter coilovers.

40 offset would be getting pretty friendly with the strut, shouldn't be outside the guards at all though
When in doubt, down and out.

Coilovers actually start to make it worse as the tyre can get close to fouling on the spring or spring perch if wound down low

7" wheel with 40 offset is only a couple of mm's away from touching rear strut, an 8" wheel with 40 offset will stick in a further 13mm, no doubt it will hit the strut.

You could fit something like a 8" wheel with +25 offset, you will have inner clearance, but will have to make adjustments to the back guards

just get lower offset wheels? i've got 16x7 +32's on my car atm and there is heaps of room either side of the wheel. ae92's are pretty much the same i reckon you could fit a 15x8 +25 but it would be a tight (good) fit.

like soopachargen said, never say never.
