4AGE 16v idle prob.

Postby 123456789 » Wed Feb 23, 2011 11:25 am

Hi all,

Alright so before i start i have done a lot of searching for the same issue as mine, some have been close and tried some of there solutions (like bleeding cooling system and faulty temp sensor etc)

But here is the Problem I'm having.

When my car is cold it idles fine at 2g-2.3g. but as soon as it warms up it constantly fluctuates between 1.1 and 2g when idleing, doesnt matter if the car is in gear with clutch in or nutural with clutch out. but as soon as you begin to move it drives perfectly normal as if nothing is wrong.

The problem isn't such a big deal, just starting to drive me nuts when in trafic....

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris

after another day of considering all possible solutions from google search results it seems to be the waxstat.

are there any 'quick fixes' or do i need to replace the entire throtle body?

Thanks
Chris

Try a bit of carb cleaner in the idle air control valve

I had exactly this, i ended up pulling the throttle body and cleaning the crap out of it. didnt help one of the water inlets had a chunk of red gasket sealant jammed in it O-o.

i tried cleaning it adjusting the tps sensor(another cause) found adjusting this i could get it to stop hunting, but it would just idle at about 2.5k ect....
Returned everything to factory but pulled and cleaned the throttle body fixed it

Had similar problem with my MAP 3S-GTE.

found out the throttle plate is closed too tightly and adjusted the stopper screw to let more air in = fixed.

What I guess has happened is ECU thinks:

"omg omg gonna stall"
*Open Idle valve to max*
"omg omg rev too high!"
*close idle valve off*
"omg omg gonna stall!"
etc etc.......
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Thanks all, iv found a waxstat of a low km 4age that i am going to replace it with. but untill it turns up iv filled the whole thing up with red gasket seal and bypassed the coolant.... works a treat. idles at 500 for a min or so when its cold but then sits happy as at 900. Considering to keep it like this.

Thanks again for all the help.
Chris.
