sr20det hunting for revs on idle

Postby sik_gt_starly » Thu Mar 03, 2011 8:18 pm

not toyota i know but cbf signing up to nissan forum and all that jazz.

GTIR pulsar idles bit rough when cold but not really noticible, however when warm idles up and down 1500-2000 rpm, similar to a vacume leak in a MAP sensored toyota.

drives reasonably ok cant notice anything out of the ordinary but backfires from time to time, only small ones and smells a bit of gas like running rich.

Im leaning towards a stuffed airflow meter, will try another one tomorrow but anyone else got any ideas as to what could be causing the problem if not AFM

cheers in advance

Run ECU diagnostics for stored codes.

Check your radiator water level. My Sil has a bit of a water leak somewhere and goes through a bit of water. When its low, it starts hunting. Top it back up and its right as rain.

ecu diagnostic came up clear.

water level was a bit low, owner reckons he lost a bit of coolant when he took inlet manifold off. Topped up with water, ran with radiator cap off, white foam/bubbles came out the top, first thing that went through head is BHG, Oil in motor is clear and clean but doesnt seem to be using any water. its in at a garage now getting tested for BHG and check if its nto a lemon

This isnt my car but have been offered it as a swap for my starlet, looks nice and runs nice but im hesitant

Is your mechanic's name 'MAGN1T'?
