Re sprayed my bumpers etc. Did it all properly, primer etc and plenty of coats. Used decent paint dulux white gloss. What can you do without going 2pot?

You can use cans.....but I sure as hell wouldn't use Dulux off the shelf stuff. Local down here does automotive cans in what ever colour you want, I redid my lip and to be honest its not perfect but you have to be looking at the thing pretty hard to notice.

It was only out side for 4 days. Would a clear coat stop the oxidising? IF you put more than 1 coat on it the clear turns yellow.

Just doesn't sound like you got the right paint for the job. Very hard to diagnose if you won't answer questions. :roll:

no, didnt realise i had to buy certian paint and it was just bumpers. will buy some now thought. have called repco etc but they were not sure on the yellowing. any one had proven success with certian brands? even if it last a 3 or so months

Colourworks just off the penrose motorway (or about there) does automotive paints in a can, $40 a pop. I painted some of my car bits with it, no fading.

Repco are not paint specialists, not trying to sound like a dick... but speak to professionals. E.g. an automotive paint shop, they know their stuff as they do it for a living. They will also sell you everything you need to do the job properly. Depending on the place they won't even take a liver as payment. :wink:

Using paint designed for cars is a good start, you don't need to pay $40/can, though that will probably be a colour matched can so will do the best job you can from a can.

I went to Resene automotive, did a colour match in a spray can, bloody awesome, perfect match and you cant really tell its been done unless you look very closely and check the consistency of finish

yep. your gonna get a better result with the right paint.

I'm an ex carpainter and still suggest you get it painted properly, a bumper would cost you between $100 and $250 for a full paint, depending on where you go and the job they do.

When you take into account the money you spent on the wrong paint, the time you spent on prep and painting, now the time you are spending on working out the problem and the time you are yet to spend on getting the right paint and repainting id say you have spent more than getting it done professionally would have cost you.

got some vht stuff from repco so will see how that goes. dont want to get them done professionally as i nodout will need to spray again. cefiro! with one purpose

How many coats should go on a fibreglass bumper? coz some of the bits is getting bit too thin around the edges.

Yeap I did. I've put a good 2 layers of primer and about 4 layers of paint.

Got a compressor?

Much better to use a spray gun if you have the resources. Also go check out your local paint shop for a mistint yellow 1k, might get lucky. You could roll it then wet sand like crazy and compound till it shines.

Lol I COMPLETELY misread that. Oops

Anyway white is easy, every paint shop usually has that cheap and a good primer with a shot of 1k will shine for a while yet. There is AUTOTHANE which is PPG, seen that about cheap.

Hell I might have some spare somewhere that I'd shoot on ya car for a box if you are handy to Pukekohe
