Rally is timed so the stop watch tells who wins.

And if my car happens to be a piece of shit old mr2 and I pit it up against group N 4wd rally cars and turn out times hot on their tail who is "winning"?

People would much rather watch my old rwd car going balls out trying to keep up but the "real winners" are the 4wd cars. Doesn't make it any less exciting or fun to do.

I can assure I have a shytload more skill than most people when it comes to gravel. I've riden with some pros from the good ol possum bourne days and they WAT at what I can do with an old hunk of rusty mr2. I took a NZ speedway champ for a ride and he was starting to shift a bit in his seat a bit.

Because someone always wins based on someone's judgement who you disagree with is no reason not to go watch. Even on targa I can't be bothered with half the winners cause they are prats. The ones in the classics backing it into corners are way more fun to watch.

Im a bit confused at who you are argueing with, no one is saying the old shitters arnt fun to watch, they are just stating that the winner is the fastest person on the day, where as drifting it is judged by someone at who looks the coolest and has the most smoke ect. :?

Drifting appears to be as much about popularity as it does skill.

In the same way the ""loosing" drifters are fun to watch. Not all of them have a huge budget and will reuse tyres, bandaid bumpers etc. Maybe not everyone wants to go to see mad mike win, they go to see everyone else lose.

And this relates to the thread how?

Have you even read what people are saying or are you just reading what you want to see? 8O You sound like someone is attacking you and what you believe, when in fact, no one has done that at all....

No-one is saying that they aren't fun to watch, they're just saying that it doesnt necessarily come down to who has the most skill

But how much power is he trying to squeeze from them?! And it's not like he gives the car a quick blast for a few seconds either

Yeah but how good are horsepower figures when you doing a motor each round, doesn't seem to be much point having 430kw if your motor doesn't last long enough to use it

I guess the only time you'd not care is if you're not paying. Sponsors pay for new engines or what? Sounds like a very expensive sport 8O

When in doubt, down and out.

Drifting is judged.

The "winner" Tends to be the person who impresses the 3 judges the most.

You show me the Rich drifters . They all spend every $ availible to drift their cars and compete/ put on a show.
Gaz mostly pays for his motors and at 30k each for the good 2 that have exploded sponsor money tends to run out real quick.

But hey, each to their own. Come watch the drifting or stay at home on the net. :)

I'll be there.
