i have had a 95 3.1 bighorn and a 94 v6 petrol pajero. Motor wise the 3.1 was pretty nice. just nneed to Disable the EGR system, and modify the oil breathers.

The only negative thing i'd say about the bighorn is that if didn't handle anywhere near as nice as the pajero either on or off road. I'd still buy another one though..

Ah talking of handling, try find an Irmsher Bighorn - they have a completely different suspension package (not the lotus equipped whales) which is miles miles better.

Sooooo gunna try that in my terrano this year

You can pick up auto turbo diesel terranos for $&#$% all these days. I paid $2k for mine, is pretty rough but had almost new 15x7 steelies with 31" all terrains. I use it everyday and its fine. Slow but fine

found some stats finally.

2.8 mu, 81kw 225nm at 2300rpm and weighs 1720.

3.1 mu, 88kw 269nm at 2000rpm and weighs 1770.

pajero 2.8t swb. 91kw 295nm at 2000 but weighs 1850.

pajero 2.5t swb. 77kw 240nm and weighs 1770.

Looks like ill have to rethink on the mitsi's as the have the far superior engine. Although quiet uneasy when searching through trade me with the number saying "blown head gasket" or "new head a few months ago" and "new head gasket 1 year ago" etc etc

I would suggest avoiding the 2.5 mitsi.

The bighorns tend to leak as the oil filter is a CXXT to access/get tight..
Well that and the breather system needs a couple of mods..
mine was a real mess maker when i got it but it didn't take much to fix it up..
