Not closing, just no free stuff soon

Signed the petition, even though it's probably pointless, worth a shot :)

Some even struggle with rego  Though given Repco pays Carjam for its service, I can't see it causing too many dramas

that would be me at onehunga.

Luckily i have half a clue on chassis and engine codes , but our company is swarming with noobs and new kids who still have to learn .. Carjam makes it that little bit easier for them to do their job efficiently

Oh ok, I remember you from mid last year where I pulled up with my white kitted MKIV Supra asking about a new xenon bulb for my headlight and you were telling me about your GT4 heh :)

So Carjam is upset because they are going to have to pay the reasonable costs of NZTA supplying them information which they are then selling to commercial users anyway.
Sound perfectly reasonable to me.

Maybe, but it does actually cost for NZTA to provide that information. Official Information Act only allows for a charge to cover the reasonable costs of providing the information, you will note that Carjam hasn't attacked the costs as unreasonable it has just said that they want it free so they can give it to the public for free. They forget to mention they will also resell it to commercial users and only provide free info to entice the public to buy further reports. They also fail to mention the free info that will now be available direct from NZTA to the public such as an ownership checking service, something Carjam currently charges you for.

I guess it had to happen sooner or later, charging to provide even the most basic info.

Over here in Aussie, there is a similar thing called a REVS check and you dont get anything free. It provides similar info to Carjam plus any recorded accident history. Damn expensive though, between $25-50 depending how much you wanna know. Fcukin rip off, theres covering costs and then theres pure profit making

Seeing as Carjam isn't free anymore how can I access info for my own car.
I haven't signed up to carjam yet, if I do what info will I get from the 3 free basic vehicle details a month?
All I really want to know is what the km's on my car were for a WOF mid last year. I have misplaced the WOF sheet.
I have gone to my local garage where I get most of my WOFs done and they can't give it to me as they don't have access to this info, just inputting it.

Would I be able to go to VTNZ to get this or would I have to ask NZTA?

Phone NZTA. As long as you can answer questions about who owns the vehicle and where it is registered to you should be able to get that info.

I called NZTA and got it but they only have the last 3 odometer readings from wofs.

Yes, The WOF records go right back to when the car originally came into the country. It's still free to use CarJam, but it's limited to only 3 registration checks per month. They'll also send you an email of the report so that you don't have to waste another rego check if you forget the info.
