quick spay paint question

Postby gleem » Fri Apr 22, 2011 9:12 pm

I have sprayed some rims with cheap black paint. Will giving them a few coats of clear extend there life expectancy? rather than more black coats?

What sort of paint? should say on the can somewhere.
Cheap and nasty spray enamel from the local hardware store?
Or an acrylic lacquer type paint?

If its an acrylic lacquer like the 3M stuff supercheap sells then you can buy a clearcoat to suit it.

Personally i wouldn't even attempt clearcoating anything thats been painted with cheap and nasty enamel until its had at least a weeks worth of baking in the sun (or actually been baked in an oven). And even then i wouldn't expect good results.

lol.

didnt we cover this with your bumper bro?

did you sand it first? a few coats may help. usually those clears just change the colour and make it look shit.

go down to a panel/paint shop and have a yarn to them before you paint anything else man. I got quoted $220 for 3 panels on my car just cos i was nice to the guy.

Just keep a couple cans spare for touch ups. Clear coat will just be another layer of paint that can flake off / look shit.

a mate of mine painted the wheels on his 180sx drift car, just keeps a spare can of paint in the boot for when the paint gets chipped

powdercoating is the best way of doing it, but if its just a cefiro then im assuming its just a thrash car, so just keep painting them as it wears off
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."
