sway bar modifications

Postby NOLAW » Thu May 05, 2011 8:45 pm

Hey all

A quick and easy question, is it possible to get swaybars modified? and if not does anyone have any idea on cost to custom make them?

having problems with my ke20 swaybar clearing the 2 peice sump setup on the 7a, i would just notch out the sump but it looks like the part its going to make contact with is the alloy peice between the block and sump

help would be great

thanks guys

the bar would have to be annealed (a type of heat treatment), re-bent, then hardened and toughened (another couple of heat treatments), and then if you'd added extra bends you would find its important dimensions have probably changed. Better to get one made I would think, or try and find one from another car that'll do the trick (keeping an eye on thickness, length and moment-arm lengths)

can't you just shim the mounts out a bit?
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

i think he means just add small spacers underneath the mounts to raise them a bit and you will probably find your clearance issues could be resolved.

Can you add spacers / modify the brackets and mount the sway bar lower? That or grab a spare sway bar, chop and weld a section on the bottom thats lower, then chop out the original middle section

I THINK the later 20 series swaybar pushes further forward, there are pics comparing in Modify's TE27 project on Club K.
