GTT caldina sounds a little tractor like

Been reading though old posts and come across the ""caldina turbo manifold sag"" reference. I have previously been to Uni-Weld and had a yarn to them and the guy said it's my rear tail muffler and the resonator thats poked. There are no exhuast leaks or anything either, Just a little unsure at this point will have a closer look tomorrow and see what i find.
So i'll get to my question, If i had to replace my turbo mani i would go for a aftermarket high mount jobby. Whats the best turbo choice? Im not looking to turn it into a speed machine it goes alright as it is. but i dont want to loose power. Keep in mind i have twins on the way so there no way in hell im gunna fork out for a genuine garret.
Also which turbo is better Gen 2,3 or 4?

Real easy to spot a leaky manifold if it's the typical Caldina version of it....
Top drives side area around port no1 will have soot around it

Does the sound go away after 30 seconds to a minute? Does it get worse when you blip the throttle when cold or just started?

Personally I'd stick to the factory turbo & manifold. I haven't had any issues since I had mine repaired and it only cost $640 (so cheaper if you do it yourself). The key thing is getting someone who knows what they're doing to do the repair and welding.
