leaking 4age sump

i dont know if there is excesive pressure, it was just a possible reason....

how do you figure sump pressure out of interest? any tell tell signs?

oil pressure on cold start up is around 70-80psi

warm idle 38-42psi

Something else worth a try, once all the sealant has been applied and the sump is in place do all the nuts up very lightly, leave it for 20 minutes for the sealant to set then snip them up, that will give you a slightly thicker gasket and might take up the gap?? I think it actually says to do this on some of the sealant instructions....

oil dipstick stays inplace

will check oil filler when next running.

is that oil pressure reading high?

Dribbling filler cap, oil pressure changing with throttle position whilst revs stay the same.

I've always wondered whats up with my oil pressure doing this. Regardless of revs if I have partial throttle and give it full throttle oil pressure drops (not by much, maybe 20kPa) then bounces straight back up

VVT solenoid opening and oil flowing into pulley?
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

That is good oil pressure. Must have tight bottom end tolerances!

No gasket.

Duno why your having so many issues..
You put sealant through the little dimples in the sump and go around the bolt holes as well?
applying a nice bead? not smearing it with your finger.
Then a nice bead onto the splash plate where it meets up to the block?

When you put it all together you get a little bit oozing out the sides?

You leave it for 24 hours to dry?

Are you sure its the sump? not a seal? like the oil pump seal or the rear main seal?

yup doing all that,

well im not 100% sure, but those seals are all brand new, so shouldnt be them.

it started as a tiny leak in sump, after the run in dyno.

it annoyed me so i thought id fix it - all i did was make it worse :lol:

i did bend some parts but thought id bent them back into place, maybe not good enough.

will try again this week using 3 bond.

wasnt running befroe dyno so id hardly blame that

That's when you pop the radiator. When your cylinder pressure escapes through the headgasket because it can't get past the rings.

With thick/cork gaskets and over tightening, the gasket gets squished so much it splits, the sump gets bent in around the bolt holes if small washers are used.
You don't have the gasket problem but the sump can still get bent from over tightening or letting silicone cure before tightening. Silicone also splits if cured then tightened.
If those aren't your source/s, then I don't think it's leaking. Good luck.

yeah its not normally that much of a problem.

The toyota black a nissan grey sealant are designed for gasket less joints, they set up alot harder than standard rtv. We use the toyota sealant and I swear by it. As suggested above run consistant bead around the joint. I normally do little circles around the bolt holes then link them with beads which makes for positive seal, dont smear it with youre finger! make sure you clean the surfaces with brakleen, if there is oil or coolant it wont stick!

If it does still leak, blast the area its leaking with brackleen so its super clean, run the engine and watch it with a good light, small leaks are impossible to find when theres oil and shit all over the place. Try and focus on the highest point you can see oil stain and you should be able to pinpoint it that way.
