(i have GTT brakes on my car) brake dust isn't all that bad you just live with it. clean every couple of weeks is fine.

They also do a dust free version for a bunch of different cars now, which are awesome. Havent track tested them, but they absolutely rule for not dusting up rims

Thanks for the suggestion - just read a few reviews on TRW's; sounds like they're not so good when cold and chew rotors, but people who use them still rave on about them none the less.

Can anyone suggest a good brake shop (since it sounds like I'm getting shafted).

Really? I run them in my Levin, they work fine from cold. Have done 10,000k's now on new pads and rotors, they're starting to show a bit of wear but no discernible lines or ridges

same here no qualms with them when cold they work just as good. daily'd them all the time between track days and always felt good. personally i wouldn't go past them for price vs performance. - which is still quite up there.

but you're the one that needs to have confidence in them. :wink:

i think its just the heavy duty option. either 1 or 2 levels above the factory level pad. should be about $130-140 iirc

Where the hell can you get these (TRW pads) from? I've rung 6 stores and nobody seems to stock them.

Also Mintex 1166's (for the front) are only availible from RaceBrakes. BNT apparently don't stock them.

When people price up Mintex 1166's with RaceBrakes, do racebrakes ask for you to send them your old pads?

Racebrakes told me if I bought them in, I could save $25 (and they would build the pad). Otherwise I could just buy them off the shelf.

hmm interesting. cause as far as i'm away aware you cant buy mintex 1166 brake pads from mintex. you can only buy the actual compound. and what the likes of 0800 racebrakes do, is get hold of the cheapest set of pads they can find (about $25 worth) and send them to the bonding companies that have 1166 in stock, like Waikato Bonding Services and get them to put the 1166 onto them. If you ring the above company and deal direct with them you wil save ALOT of money, you will get nearly 2 sets of pads for the price of 1 set from racebrakes.

Help: Brake Pad Installation

Have I been given a split pair of pads?

The pads that came off only had the wear indicator (circled) on one side of each pair. Because of the indicator, I can't get the backing plate on, on one side of the pad.

Also, even with brake piston pushed as far as it'll go, the pads are draging on the rotor. I don't recall this with other brakes I've installed (I presume it'll burn off though).
