Which headlight bulbs are best?

Postby Bling » Thu Jun 23, 2011 6:02 pm

Title says it all.

Wanting to replace the bulbs on two ae111s (H4 IIRC, raining and cbf getting wet to check)

So which ones have people had good results with? I can just go to *insert autoparts store name here* and grab some..... but I want some suggestions of good ones as the current ones are very average.

Uncoloured ones are the good start. +50 Narva are good. Don't go higher wattages, way too many problems and they will be dimmer as the wiring is not up to the task.
You might need to look at wiring if your lights are too dim.

Narva Plus 100's will be available shortly, they ought to be fairly awesome. Phillips bulbs are better quality, but for the cost, you may as well go Narva.

If you are willing to import these guys are worth a look -

Or just Narva Plus 50's will do the job pretty well, upgraded wiring will help whatever bulbs you get.

Ive got some Hella ones which are quite good. They have a faint blue exterior halfway down the bulb and give off a pure white light. Pair them with a blue tinted park bulb and there's no yellowing of the light at all. 8)

They are an item with massive mark up.

Even with my meagre discount card (Repco blue) the price to me for buying the boxed pair of them was within a couple of $ of buy one individual bulb at retail.

So if you know "a guy" ... hit them up

From previous experience I have found that they all emit the same light to the naked eye anyway, So just buy a good quality brand.

My work car blows bulbs randomly, I replaced one about 6months ago with a Narva +50 and it looked the same as the original one in the car, The other one blew last week and I replaced it with a +30 Repco branded one and the light output and colour look the same to me.

do you do much country road driving?
or just around chch and on main state high ways? just go will 30+
as 50+ will blind you back on any road sigh on high beam, just get them for use on poorly marker country roads. I've got them.

Do my fair share of open road driving, not too worried about glare back if the flipside is increased vision.

That might be to poor condition of wiring.
