New 'Laptime' thread?

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Mon Jun 27, 2011 12:06 pm

Update: Trial version is up:
viewtopic.php?p=850524#850524

Would there be many people keen for a new thread in the Projects section for a laptime thread and a Laptime discussion thread too, to keep the laptime thread clean?

We have one for Dyno results and 1/4 Miles but not for Laptimes.

There are a few people with times in their sig's now so would there be enough interest/contributions?

One problem is proving the time, so I guess the only way is if the results are published for a track day? Any other suggestions or do we just 'moderate' it via discussion thread?

Mod's would this be much hassle for updating like the Dyno one?

Suggested format:
Time: 1:20
Location: Manfeild/Taupo/Hampton etc
Track version: Short track/full track etc
Conditions: Wet weather etc (too much detail maybe?)
Vehicle: Morris Minor
Road Legal: Yes/No
Basic vehicle details: 1UZ, Eaton S/C, Roll cage etc
Tyres: Semislick/Full Slick/Road Tyre

Thoughts?

good idea, but proof of times is going to have to be taken at owners word as even official results for club sprint events contain errors (when compared to personal in car transponders)

Yeah its definitely an issue, you can only really call BS when someone is being a douche and its obviously not possible or an error where one lap is far quicker than the ones before and after. Otherwise it should be pretty straight forward if using 'official' results (car club website or email results etc).

I don't think it should be too serious but for a bit of fun and competition it would be interesting to have the results in one place.

If there are silly times put forward or stupid comments, just delete them [/hitler].

From what I can tell my times at there quickest fluxuate between a late 17 with old and abused slicks to that 14.5 with basically new slicks my time generally is dictated by the condition of the rubber I'm using but yep when I did that 14 I actually won the event that day less to say i was pretty happy as I over took all the cars that I beat that day on the way home also as they were all on the back of trailers...

~SlideWays~ if you want to start a thread in the members section with similar format to the other ones in there I can sticky it. You happy to keep it updated? The mods can remove posts as they are updated.

Yep, I'll have a think about the best way to display top 10 or so per track and start one.

Will also have to think about the best way to get peoples results, work email will probably block them and PM's will fill up quick.

Few forums have this actually.
Some of them have a ton of lap times, its def good information to have.

ie if someone wants to get an idea on what times they could run around a track they could look for the similar car.

I recon stick it in the members section?

The problem with displaying only the top 10 is that once there's a decent number of results only the more serious race/track day cars will be up, so people wont know how their stock AE101 time around Puke compares with other similar cars. Could possibly break up into classes, e.g. street legal tyres or slicks, plus engine size using one of the track car engine size equivalence things (IIRC x1.3 for rotary, x1.8 for turbo/supercharged), that way you only have perhaps 4 or 6 classes per track so it wont be a crazy number to keep updated

People can just post in the thread with their info to be added to your top post. Once done mods can just delete the posts so the only one left is yours with the times.

OK so which tracks are needed, any more to add to the following?

    Hampton Downs
    Manfeild
    Ruapuna
    Pukekohe
    Taupo
    Timaru (what is it called?)

Malcolm, it could get quite messy couldn't it. With 6 groups per track there would be 36 different sections with a list of 10 each.

Maybe keep it simple with one line per person and add more on as they are put forward and there is room to have 50 lines per track if needed, something like this:

Manfeild
1. 2jayzgte, 1.14.5, JZA80 Supra | Slicks, TRD catalogue on wheels
2. ~Slideways~, DNF, AE92 Trueno | 4agte, semi slicks
3.
4.

Pukekohe
1. siren676, 1.26, EP91 Starlet | 4E-FE, numerous handling mods
2.

i like this idea. as for keeping comparisons relevant etc, how about keeping to the basic motorsport regulation classes such as 0-1600cc, 1601-2000cc..... etc etc and NA/FI as well??

or maybe this is what people were already meaning? :?
