Did the law won?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

where do they expect us to safely practice our art if not on the roads (obviously) or disused tracks (questionably)?

that particular area should have been fenced off years ago to stop the vandals/ hoons from wrecking it.

I had my charge changed to carless use as the sustained loss charge has to have an audince. Were you showing off to anyone? car packed with mates? few dozen people around?

If no, then plead careless use. punishment for me was 2 months loss of licence insted of manditory 6 months/$500 fine.

By explaining that you were in and area that you believed to be safe yet was still a "public road" and you were caught then sounds like potentual "careless behaviour". It will only work if you can prove that you were doing it for self satisfaction and not to showoff to anyone.

Its pretty popular that place, a quick google brings up heaps of car forums having meets there and disucssuion about it, and even a top NZ drifter having a go. Could be worth getting in touch with some of the other car groups and see if they have had any direct dealing with the local Police in regards to using the track?

if you are trying to get a job that involves driving a company vehicle, or getting a new insurance policy, i'm bloody sure that 'sustained loss' charge is considered far lighter than 'careless use'
