Probably want a section for the old Taupo circuit, as well as Levels and Teretonga. Main reason I never started one is the fact you ideally need to break it into road and race cars, then try and stop arguments about whether a car is a road car or a race car.

or maybe this is what people were already meaning? :?

Definitely open to suggestions ut as I said a couple of posts above, it would be a huge list because you would have 6 or 7 tracks, 6 engine variations and a top ten of each.

It would be a very big list like this:

Compared to a simpler version like this:

Infact you could add the engine group and race/road car into the simple description line.

Manfeild
1. 2jayzgte, 1.14.5, 2001-2996cc FI | JZA80 Supra | Slicks, TRD catalogue on wheels
2. ~Slideways~, DNF, 0-1600cc FI | AE92 Trueno | 4agte, semi slicks
3.
4.

Pukekohe
1. siren676, 1.26, 0-1600 NA | EP91 Starlet | 4E-FE, numerous handling mods
2.

I'd be keen to start off with one of the above suggestions for a format then see what it looks like for race car vs road car later on, what do you think?

EDIT: you could argue till the cows explode about when a car becomes a race car so I'd say don't separate them until we have a decent list.

why can't a race car be a road car as well??

you're right about the shear number of tracks/engine combo's etc. just need some way to distinquish between someone such as 2jayzgte in an uber power supra doing a 1.14 at manfeild and a 4age powered ae92 for example doing a 1.20 - which would be a blisteringly quick time for this car.

guess what i'm trying to say is not splitting it up at least a bit favours the 'big boys' if you like with power etc. would be nice to see some more of the kind of cars guys start out in motorsport being compared such as corolla's/levins/trueno's etc cause this would probably help people who are getting into racing more, seeing what times they are doing and maybe being able to make contact with the right people who could advise them on setup etc.
this is where i see the value of this thread, not just in showing people how fast a car can go if you spend $$$$ on it, but what simple setups can do so it helps develop the community and people as drivers.

Maybe split it off into two pages? One for north island tracks and the other for south island tracks. Might help keep each page a bit cleaner/simpler

My point exactly

Which is why just splitting whether it would be road legal is probably the best way - that way, just like with drag classes, running tyres that aren't legal to use on the road or other modifications that make the car un-streetable puts you into the "race car" class. Then using the engine size multipliers for turbo/rotary etc means you don't need to double up the engine size divisions into NA and FI too

Maybe, but comparing Rhys' car to my Levin wouldnt be exactly fair just as an example. Both AE101's, both still 1600, mine would be lucky to crack sub 1:35 at Manfeild

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

That's kinda the point Bazda was making earlier though. That way people can compare a realitively stock AE101 against a heavily modded one for example

Sounds like yours just sucks then :P We can't go round creating so many classes just so that everyone can be at the top of their class (with only 1 person in it) :P

No, mine is just a stock road car vs a caged, stripped, blacktopped, semi slick equipped "road" car. I dont really care about getting that car into any sort of record (bar most k's on the clock ), was merely using it as an example of the trouble we come up against when doing these sorts of top 10s.

Is it a competition or just an 'informative' idea?

I say just list tracks then have cars listed underneath with their times. Unless it's serious business or something  Car info can be included in the single line entry for each car. Or you can have >9000 categories. Either or.... one way just seems a lot less work to me and still provides as much meaningful information for people wanting to compare times.

Keen to add my car in for the slowest lap of manfield before the MM10 track day started
not really..

well i ewckon it would be helpful rather than a competition.

say for example someone does their first track day or whatever, does a time then goes to the thread to see what other other people have done at that track. see a car similar to theirs but quicker. can then ask questions about how the car is set up etc if they are a GC and OP is willing to share info (which most guys on here are more than happy to IME)

i see it as more like sharing info as to what times TS'ers are doing, as a fair number of us attent track day, probably often at the same track day but don't know they people etc. thats what TS and racing is all about for me anyway.

but yeah best way to display? don't know. there won't be much value in it just being a shootout type board with the fastest times possible IMO

edit: hey brad i think we should have a smoking old tired 4age race + thread. then you will win! maybe mark will come in a close second with his ae92... lmao
