Adhesive Steel to Aluminium suggestions.

Postby ~SlideWays~ » Sat Jul 02, 2011 4:15 pm

I have removed the sun roof from my Trueno and looking at covering the hole with a sheet of Aluminium.

Can anyone suggest what sort of adhesive to use? I'd rather not weld or rivet it because it is likely to warp with the heat or have an uneven surface with rivets.

Cheers

sikaflex do a panel adhesive used in the coachbuilding/boat building industry for bonding panels not sure what it's called cause it's been a while since I used it but not the easiest to remove if you ever want to get the panels off again

The rivets will have to be EPIC lined up or it will look terrible.
Measure, mark and centre punch every hole perfectly.

Have cut out the alloy sheet now, so since I needed to go to Bunnings I asked a guy there and he tried to help but nothing looked suitable.

I'll have to try Repco after work.

Tim Blair, any suggestions on what to use? Brand type or name of product?

Actually nevermind my last post, just saw your suggestion. So is Wurth MS1 suitable for steel to aluminium with little to no gap?

3M make some pretty good double sided adhesives.

I would give this a go first. Go down to your local 3M supplier.

Looks like there is a 3M supplier up the road from work, I'll go for a walk and see if they can help.
