no reg questions

Postby shihad » Sun Jul 03, 2011 4:32 pm

quick google search tells me nothing

i got a no reg fine last monday morning, yep cool my reg was over a month out so be it.but the bit that caught me off guard was the cop (clearly new) told me its 100 bucks and 35 demerits.seeing as i see no way of avoiding paying registration im getting 35 demerits for essentilly being slow in paying my tax.what a $&#$% crock of shit.thats the same as 20-30 over the limit.although i definatly dont deserve to have a clean driving record i actually have one which i am proud of.so now when i apply for a job i have to declare that i have a fine for no registration.

is the fine for no reg 100 dollars and 35 demerits?

do you know of anyone who got off a fine because the officer wrote the wrong (in my case non existant) location?

i dont expect theres a chance i can get off im just appealing to see if anyone has.

why would you have to state you got demerits when applying for a job? its not a criminal conviction, who cares.

Isn't it 400 fine for no reg?
I just got a letter for reg on a truck I sold for scrap 18 months ago, they want 600, forgot about derging it.

Got a 400 fine for no reg. You got off lightly. I'd just pay it before the mistake is picked up on. No one will deny you a job for a no reg fine. They ask for driving history to ensure you arent a drunk driver or dangerous driver etc

its not a charge. just an infringment. if you are charged with careless driving or driving then it becomes part of your record. you have nothing to worrie about.
pay your fine and remember to reg your cars when the letters come in the mail

They dropped the fines I think an upped the demerits as fines were not deterring people from committing the offences. "Put it on my tab officer"

I don't know the exact details of your situation, but 35 demerits sounds high!

I don't think it has ever been that high. It used to be $200 for no rego, but they dropped it to $100 and introduced demerit points instead.

Here's a list of what some of the fines are for various offences:

yeah it was 200 each iirc.

Im not sure i agree with getting demerits for lack of rego, as rego is pretty much just a tax. Demerits for no WOF makes sense as it means your car could be unroadworthy.

the 600 would be for a years worth of truck rego, if you don't de-reg it your still liable. Its just one of the reasons you don't let anybody take the vehicle till they show you the change of ownership thing, and you don' t let a wrecker take it away with the plates on it, go hand them in to avoid this sort of thing.

I'd say the main reason for the demerits now is to stop people putting the reg on hold and continue driving. I mean for diesel vehicles or motorbikes you could get two fines a year and still be better off than getting 12 months reg.

It is just a deterrent, if you pay on time there is no consequence. As above, the only reason they changed it is some people don't pay fines. So just getting another fine means nothing to them. Take their license, and it's a different story.

I got a ticket from a warden a few months back for 'using an un reg'd vehicle'

1, I wasnt using it at the time, it was parked, lol, but that wasnt my argument.

I got off because my truck WAS reg'd, i was just not displaying it, so they took it as not reg'd. I simply emailed the council with proof that my truck was reg'd and said to drop the fine (I didnt ask) and advised them that there own paperwork would get me off in court if THEY persued it. lol, I got a reply saying that the fee was dropped and that I should display my reg ticket. (Fair enough, I just dont usually reg it online untill its DUE so dont have the ticket for a week or so)

Copper fines are different though, theres USED to be 'not displaying'.

I got $800 in fines for a plate I didn't own on cars I didn't own. The plates were last registered to my car though... No wof and reg x2 on 2 separate cars parked on the street. I was living in Wellington and the fines were in Dunedin. I had a big rant to the council and all they did was waive the fines. No apology though.

I think it's cheaper to keep your rego paid. They are dishing out demerit points for everything these days. Haven't got any myself.
