Hmm i was about to say maybe i could take you for a spin in our altezza. But considering you are down in shaky town and we are up here on stable ground ill give that idea a miss.

We have a JCE10, my missus drives it. perfect with a car seat in the back, plenty of room in the boot for the pram. And plenty of grunt for daddy =) Also all the safety accesories to make me feel comfortable about letting my family cruise round in it.

I bargained the F**** out of the previous owner. ended up getting it for $11k with 80,000ks on the clock. Have chopped out middle resonator to give it abit more of an exhaust note without being to rude. Put in a TRD filter. changed the fuel filter, trans and engine oils, run a fuel injector and valve cleaner flush through the engine. The 2JZ has amazing power down low and with the VVTI up top gives it all the driveability in the world. The triptronic works well. I can hit the Kaimais 4 up and cruise in top gear to the top (maybe the odd down change to wizz past 1 of the many trucks or campas in the way). With the traction control off, power sliding comes naturally. I dont think ive had these sorts of feelings about a car before.. i may be in love.. ever since the untimely departure of my 2JZ cressida i have had a hole in my life. This car fills every part of the hole!

I dont think comparing the Altezza Gita with the likes of legacy, caldina, atenza's is very fair on the competition. I would be comparing it with similar model BMW, Merc or VW/Audi wagons. (dont get me wrong, id have an rs6 wagon over a set of testicles any day)

Oh and i think they are very stylish looking. Will puts some pics up when i finally get round to popping the new lowering springs in. Considering a set of meisters too... mmmmmmmmmmmm

yeh im gunna be real honest and say i dont count the k's. We seem to average about $40 a week just running round town. I think it cost me about $50 to get to hamilton and back driving relatively sedately.

however i have been toying with the idea of a vvti 2uz.. that would be cool =)

You can replace them with any single or double din headunit, just need a fascia kit (Toyota, Madsounds etc sell these) to fill in the gap and make it look close to factory.

From memory the kit only cost around $50 so wasn't that bad.

yeh just get them off trademe. my old 99 altezza headunit played up. just replaced it with an sony item and the surround kit from tm.

So spent the whole weekend looking at different options and TBH have gone off the Altezzas, the boot on them isn't that big.

The three cars its come down to are:

Mazda 6/Attenza
Caldina GT4 (the newer shape)
Legacy 3.0R

Found a really nice condition Legacy today that is perhaps the front runner at the moment, full leather, heated seats, immaculate interioe exterior. The only speedbump with this is it is higher kms, around the 135kms mark for a 2003 car. Would this turn most of you off?

Anyone got any thoughts on the three above vehicles?
The Mazda would be the slowest, and probably the lowest on the list (mainly due to motors), but the Wife loves the fact that they come in some bright colours instead of teh standard white and silver like 99% of all imports. Do like the look of them though and could probably live with one if we can find a higher specced one with full leather.

Quite like the Caldinas, would be comaparable in the Legacy to power and speed. Would only consider of the turbo ones, as the standard ones look a bit to people moverish. But quite rare it seems and hard to find good info about.

Those Legacys are quite nice,they come with a 6 speed too if your looking at a manual 3.0R.

we have a 05 2.5 outback at work, done just under 300k's still drove like a new car, spotless engine bay etc etc as long as it has been serviced regularily 135k's aint nothing especially for a 3 litre

+1 for the legacy wagons. 3.0 quite alot of torque. Father has a 3.0 outback and loves it.

yeah the girlfriends old man has a 3L legacy, lancaster wtf ever they are called. seems to go pretty well, he tows his jetski with it etc.

the 6 cylinder seems like a pretty good unit compared to the older EJ20s, cam chain, decent rockercover gaskets etc. its nice enough inside too. leather would be sweet.

my only concern with kms would be resale value

Yeah the kms are the only thing stopping us from striking a deal at present (and also mechanical check). If the car had 100kms on the clock, it would be a no brainer, but it just niggles at me a bit. Would be looking to keep the car for 3-4 years, so would probably get another 50k on the clock which puts it up around 180-90 kms, which would hurt the resale alot.

Going to also drive a 04 GT, and GTB this week as well to see how they compare, none with leather interior though :cry:

Just having it that long will hurt the resale a lot.
Imo you should forget about resale as pretty much anything will be worth nothing compared to it's worth now that far ahead.

Only if I wasn't planning on keeping it for long.

Kays mean nothing - it comes down to how the car has been driven and how well it's been looked after. If it's a tidy car and mechanically in good condition, then it's likely you'll get a bargain because of the kays.

I'm now in the mindset of having a good car, and keeping it for as long as possible (& practical).

I gather that one is a jap import rather than NZ-new? If so I would probably steer away from it, unless it somehow comes with a FSH. Also $15k is a bit much for a 8 year old car with 138k, unless you're able to strike a better deal than the advertised window price? Having said that, people pay about the same price for a 2003-2005 Mazda6/Atenza wagon with those kms.

Yip its a jap import. Would be hoping to get it for lower obviously than sticker price.

What is the FSH?
