My link g3 is fried.

Postby TRD_ZERO » Thu Jul 14, 2011 2:11 pm

I was getting my car tuned when spark dropped out and so did one of the banks of injectors. My tuner told me to send it of to link so they can have a look at it. Just got a call from link and they said the ignition chip is damaged by too much heat and they cant repair it.

Im wanting to know what could have caused the ignition chip to overheat and fry. Could it be from a incorrectly wired up resistor pack for the injectors?

Bugger,
The so called sparky that wired my fd cocked up the injectors and fried one of the injector drivers in my mircrotec years ago,

You would probably be better ringing link and having a chat about how it may have happened, they are pretty good to deal with

I did ask them what could have caused it and they think it could be a bad coil. Im wondering if it could be cause by the resistor pack being incorrectly wired in or not working properly.

I can't see how a bad coil could cause it as the coil current does not go through the ECU.

What igniter do you use?

We fried a G4 when injector wires melted on a dyno tune as there is so much heat generated and no so much airflow over the actual engine components and loom.

I would be checking stuff out before fitting another one.

Yeah dont think it will do you any good its unrepairable.

Im stil using the factory igniter. Yeah thats why ive started this thread to find out what might have caused it and what i could check so that it wont happen again.

Any other ideas?
