4age silvertop levin quarter mile

Postby KIPH8N » Sun Jul 17, 2011 5:20 pm

I went to winter drags today in my 4age silvertop levin. Best quarter mile time was 16.7.
Is this normal for a 4age silvertop?
Reaction time was 0.112
Flat shifting and redlining till 3rd gear.

Around the 16 mark used to be average for a stocker. Practice, practice, practice.

not too bad for a fwd non turbo 1.6litre....
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

add in the variables of

What tyres
What suspension
What track
How much power has my engine lost in the last 20 years
What driver

I'd say it sounds like you're within reasonable expectations.

Though, it must be said drag racing a stock 4age is like putting a pig on roller skates and sending it out to play hockey. You could ... but it doesn't make it a great idea

Reaction time doesn't matter (not part of the 1/4 mile time), and WTF you were flat shifting? As in not lifting off the throttle while you shifted gears? Seems like a lot of abuse to give a car for a 16.7

Not sure on the HP difference between a silver & a black top; but my completely stock black top AE101 4age did a 16.0 at Meremere.

Somewhere in the mid/low 16s seems normal for a stockish silvertop 20v, 16.7 indicates either something wrong or more practice needed imho. High 15s for intake and exhaust should be doable with some practice, and gradually quicker as better suspension, weight reduction and ninja driving start coming into it.

To get an idea of the outright potential - Loudtoy on here did 14.7 with all his interior out, exhaust dropped, suspension, intake and exhaust dropped

Wouldn't bother pulling interior. More important will be tyres and the perfect launch 8)

Work on your skills before you worry about saving 30kg, which is my guess if you were to pull your whole interior out minus drivers seat. Whereas working on your launch and when to change gears will help more. Flat shifting is great if you don't need a gearbox to get home with.

What was your 60'? I was there running mates EP71 Turbo S. We ended up with 13.6 @ 167, car has previously done a 13.22 @ 161. Difference is entirely down to the traction off the line - it was a pretty rubbish track! On a well prepared track (e.g nightwars or one of the competition meets) we would be doing 1.90-2.0 60's all day (power limited). I think sundays best was a 2.28. Looking at the logs he wasn't hitting full throttle until well into 2nd gear which is ~65km/h.

For FWD drag racing .1 off the 60' seems to correspond pretty well to .2 off your ET. If you were doing 2.6's and could get down to a 2.2 on a good track with lower tire pressures/better rubber then your 16.7 transforms into a 15.9 with the same traps.
