I always liked the M250 as a Stratos replacement.

I think the last car to have pop up headlights was one of the Lotus Esprit cars. Also it reduces your top speed. But who drives at top speed at night anyway....

One of my mates actually built a Lancia Stratos replica about 25 years ago, well him and another person built 2 of them.
Roger did the chassis fab, (he even cast his own wheels) the other did the plywood body plug, made the moulds, then did 2 fibreglass bodies.
Rogers car was based on Lancia beta running gear, he later swapped out the motor for a Nissan V6. I've driven it too.
With the Lancia Beta motor I think it did low 1 min 20s around Manfield.
I seem to remember him telling me that it was too light, with the big tyres it wasn't good in the wet. Tended to aquaplane badly.
He's working on a fully enclosed motorcycle right now, has training wheels that drop down at low speed so it doesn't fall over.

We must have mutual 'mates' because it was a very good friend of mine that built these cars.
In fact I was looking at importing a replica out of the UK a short while back and got to wondering where these things are these days.

Don't suppose this is one of the replicas you're talking about?

Looks like the one from a member of the Constructors Car Club in Wellington. All kinds of interesting cars.

Yep that's right, it's someone from the Constructors Car club. They had a display outside Te Papa when I was down there displaying/presenting during the F1 exhibition there. Got to snap a bunch of pics of the cars as they were leaving but only managed to speak to a couple of owners/builders.

That would make sense, I was thinking it must have been a while ago since those wire tree things haven't been there for ages.
Here's the car's details:
