shipping that wont end my poor wallet?

Postby MAC_HATER » Sat Jul 23, 2011 3:34 pm

Hey everyone,

im buying some A70 Interior Parts off Audi Man up in the north island:

Front and Rear Recaro Seats
Front Door Cards and back seat card things (unsure what the call em?)
and the steering wheel

now this all on a pallet will be reasonably sizeable (unsure on weight either but reasonably heavy too at a guess)

trouble is i live in invercargill - way down the bottom of the country - and hes way at the top of the country hah!

he has gotten a quote for shipping depot to deopt through mainfreight and its several hundred dollars - more than i paid for the gear itself haha

im not in the courier\shipping game so ive no idea about alternatives that might be cheaper?

if anyone here has an idea that might help me bring the cost down that would be awesome :D

i could go crazy and drive to get them but that would just be stupid and probably make me want to top myself driving a truck that has a top speed of 90 and 80 with gear on and ruiniously expensive as well haha!

is there anyone or anything ive overlooked that might do a better deal?

Cheers guys :D

We use mainfreight at work, but tbh they aren't the cheapest for north to south island transport even with an account.

We use to use roadstar and they were very reasonable, PBT also tried earlier this year to get our business with very reasonable rates to the south island. Not sure what they would do for a casual customer but both companies are looking for more work so you might be able to do a deal.

when i purchased my seats they came folded out flat, one on top of the other. If you did that, put the rest of the parts neatly with them and put them in a cardboard box i would guess at the most through nzc you would be paying $100. It's not cheap, but it might be better than what you have had.

Yeah folding the seats flat would make better use of space - im quite happy to pay $100-150 or so but the mainfreight quotes have been arounf $3-$400

PBT took on a "Nah $&#$% ya" approach to me when i said i didint have an account with them - so they dont want the buisness heh

shipmytrade seem to look good - you can specify exactly what you want to send and its dimensions and weight so they look good

Cheers for the help guys :D

Yeah sadly PBT have a crap attitude, hence why we didn't go with them for our work freight. But thought they might help.

Try Retko, relatively new to the market and seem to be alright.

Mainfreight love to charge for interisland stuff. We send pallets every week at +$500 but they are loaded to full dims that they will take.

If you go NZC why not go Posthaste for a cheaper option, they are owned by NZC anyway. We use both for south island freight, just depends if you want them over night or 2 days as posthaste offers a 2 day service at a fraction the price of NZC overnight service.
