painting bumper to look like plastic

Postby AE86less » Tue Jul 26, 2011 8:37 pm

Quick question, dont know if its a tech question.

If i want to make a colour coded bumper look like a poverty spec black one, what should i use? I wondered if actual black plastic/bumper paint would stick? Or if i just matty b it if it will just look ratty?

Can of satin black works a treat. Clean down with prepsol/ wax and grease remover, spray and walk away!

Sam, TTEETT had pretty good results with that bumper black stuff from Repco/Supercheap. Not too sure how it'd would go over a coloured bumper though - could be worthwhile testing a patch

I used a product called Bumper Coat, by K&H,
it's a satin black so has a nice rich look, without being too flat or too gloss. It is also flexible.
I used it on a previously painted bumper. Came up pretty good.

^^^^This^^^^

It’s awesome stuff, goes on easy and is textured, so easy to use, no primeing required jst a quick clean up.

It’s at Repco and is worth every $

I think the main problem is the unpainted bumpers are somewhat textured while the painted bumpers have primer and paint coats making them smooth. I wonder if the plastic painted bumpers are still textured underneath the primer, assuming a paint stripper will be able to get it all off.

What car is it for? Perhaps easier to just find the povo pack bumper?

Have you priced a new one? Some of them are quite reasonable and come black unpainted as standard. Usually just as a bumper skin so keeps the price down
