Best way to replace worn and bent key

Well basically my partner only has the one key for her car. I can see it has a big bend on it and to be honest its not too far away from snapping as it has a split in it too!

I got a key cut (twice actually, once at Mitre 10 and once at a locksmith) and the new key doesnt work in the door or ignition.

Could it be that the lock/ignition is just as warn as the key? Any ideas on how to make a new key work in this scenario? Really want to avoid replacing locks etc, as its a POS 91 Corona that is pretty much at the end of its life anyway.

a decent locksmith will be able to cut a key from the numbers, so it will be like a brand new version of your key.

if that is not working, something isint right. you could ask them to try and cut it to match your existing one, so a straight copy complete with wear.

optionally you could remove the locks you want to work, take them to the locksmith and get him to sort it out (they can adjust the heights of the wafers etc so the new key will work)

that last option wont be cheap though

I was thinking as the car is a pile anyway and getting keys cut from teh original worn key is cheap as and I already have 2 of them, I might try give one a bash and make it bent like the other one

Thought about it yeah, but like I say, car is a POS. Its just a gap filler until moving to OZ later on in the year and its really not worth much saving. Its just the thought of the key breaking at the most inopportune moment that gives me nightmares.

fasts way is to go to king Toyota with ownership paper and ask for key number, go to beverage locksmith with number, get the cut key for your car, also get some crc, spray it i locks as they will be full dirty, etc. put keys in and out locks 10time wiping key every time of shit then try, should be mint after that.

locks wear just as keys do.

Use the new key only and jiggle the hell out of it. Once you get it working, use ONLY the new key, after a while it should work pretty well

Screw using CRC, use graphite powder instead. If its an import Toyota may not be able to help you out with the key number. Take the passengers door lock out and take it to a locksmith who can cut a key from that, much more accurate than taking a copy from an old key.
