I found this in the back of my daily driver and I'm thinking maybe a sub as the car has factory upgraded stereo and there's only the one of them.

Could quite possibly be a sub. ToyoDIY classes it as 'SPEAKER ASSY, W/BOX'. As far as I knew, the only sub that was available for the Cynos was part of the 'Super Live Sound System' (optional extra) and it was mounted in the boot. Crank up the stereo and see if it thuds

Yes.
see them all the time in different toyota's at work.
Have struck them in corolla's Corona's and hilux surf's.
just a 4" speaker in an enclosed box.

thanks guys , I'm sure your right . It can stay there for now , the whole system needs upgrading starting with the jap spec head unit
