Been done, not a cost effective engine swap. Will cost you the same/more than a 4AGE due to issues with engine mounts (no easy points on the block), custom bellhousing and I think the sump needs a lot of work too. Then you have modified manifolds as well to suit the RWD to end up with still only running 1300cc. If you are a particular fan of the 4E-FTE then go for it but don't expect value for money out of the swap.

Im the owner of this now. Doesnt look like sump has needed modifying and engine mount adapters dont look super crazy. The bellhousing mods do look like they would have cost a bit however, chop and weld type thing.

Have you considered alternative RWD engines?

Most rwd engine conversions will involve similar amounts of work.
You just have to consider parts availability and what stuff costs.
A 4EFTE will be cool, but HOW MUCH is that specially made fwd->rwd gearbox adapter going to cost? It would save you a lot of hassle and money to get and engine/gearbox that is already the right way around.

A BP(1800) engine out of an MX5? Not as old as some of the other options we have. You can use the MX5 RWD box and get a BPT engine from a GTX familiar. Factory turbo ftw!

I am running a CA18ET(Old SOHC version of the CA18DET). The einge was free..... Not so common enough anymore if you want to be able to get all your spares from scrap yards though. Even the CA18DET..... I've not seen one of those at Pick a Part for YEARS!
It was an easy fit in the hole though. Didn't have to cut anything, other than what was required to convert to hydraulic clutch, and moving the gear lever hole.
I originally tried to keep the cable clutch, but it was fail.

Or an SR20DE*..... but it may be a bit big. Dad has one in an escort, and the engine bay is REALLY FULL. But there is someone on here who has a KP with an SR20DE in it.... Burning Angel??

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
